Bespoke app and software development in Birmingham and the West Midlands

We design and build web apps, client portals, booking systems and software products for businesses and charities. We built TheRatesHub and ChickenSign ourselves, from first idea to live product, so we know what it takes to get software in front of real users.

When off-the-shelf software stops fitting

Spreadsheets and generic apps get a small business a long way. Then the workarounds pile up. Staff copy the same details between three systems, customers ring because they can’t see where their order is, or you pay for ten subscriptions that each do a fifth of what you need.

That’s usually the point where a small piece of custom software pays for itself. It doesn’t have to be a big project. A tool that does one job well is often enough.

What we build

  • Client portals where customers log in to see their bookings, documents or progress.
  • Booking and scheduling systems that fit how your appointments actually work.
  • Internal tools that replace a tangle of spreadsheets with one simple screen.
  • Software products for founders who want to launch a SaaS or a mobile-friendly web app.
  • Prototypes that let you test an idea with real users before spending on a full build.

Projects we’ve built

  • TheRatesHub – business rates data and a CRM for UK rates advisers: VOA property records, Valuation Tribunal decisions and client appeals in one platform
  • ChickenSign – upload a PDF, place the signature boxes and send a private link; simple e-signatures for UK service businesses
  • 2Factor.co.uk – free step-by-step guides to turning on two-factor authentication

How we work

  1. A 30-minute call to understand the problem and who will use the software.
  2. A short scope in plain English: what the first version does, what it doesn’t, and a fixed price.
  3. Build in stages. You see working software early on a private link, and we change direction based on what you learn.
  4. Launch and support. We put it live, fix anything that comes up, and agree ongoing hosting and updates if you want them.

Once you’ve paid in full, you own your project’s code and all your data. If we reuse components we’ve built before, we keep those and you get a permanent licence to use them.

Questions about app development

How much does an app cost?

A simple prototype is £950 to £2,500. A full product depends on what it needs to do, so we scope it on a call and give you a fixed price.

Do you build iPhone and Android apps?

Yes. We build native iPhone and Android apps, and web apps that work on any phone and can be installed from the browser. A web app is often cheaper and quicker to launch, so we’ll tell you honestly which suits your project.

I have an idea but no technical plan. Can you help?

Yes. That’s what the first call and the scope are for. We’ll help you decide what the smallest useful first version is.

Who owns the software?

You do, once it’s paid for: the code we write for you, your data and your content. Any of our own reusable components stay ours, and you get a permanent licence to use them, so you’re never locked in.

Do you work with clients outside the West Midlands?

Yes. Software projects are run remotely for clients across the UK.
