A slow computer often doesn’t need replacing. Swapping an old hard drive for an SSD, or adding memory, can make a five-year-old laptop start in seconds instead of minutes, for much less than a new one. We’ll tell you honestly whether an upgrade is worth it, and if it isn’t, we’ll build or source something that is.

Upgrades that make the biggest difference
SSD upgrade. If your computer still has a spinning hard drive, this is usually the single biggest speed-up you can buy. We copy everything across (Windows, programs and files), so it works exactly as before, only faster.
More memory (RAM). If the computer slows down when you have a few programs or browser tabs open, more memory often fixes it.
Clean and re-paste. Dust and dried thermal paste make machines run hot and throttle. A full clean and optimise is £45.

Is an upgrade worth it?
We check the machine before you spend anything. An upgrade is usually worth it when the computer is in good physical condition and can run a supported version of Windows. If it can’t run Windows 11, we’ll explain your options. Read SSD vs new laptop: which is better value? for more.

We build desktops to order for gaming, video editing, office work and small businesses. You tell us the budget and what you’ll use it for, and we choose parts that suit it, then build, test and set it up.

The £40 covers our labour. Parts are extra and depend on what your machine needs. You get a fixed price for both before we start.

Questions about upgrades
Will I lose my files with an SSD upgrade?
No. We clone the old drive to the new one, so your files and programs carry over. We still recommend a backup first, and we can do that for you.
Can my laptop be upgraded?
Most can, but some have memory soldered to the board. Tell us the make and model and we’ll check before you book.
Can you upgrade a computer to Windows 11?
If the hardware supports it, yes. If it doesn’t, we’ll explain what that means for security and your options.
