Free remote IT health check for small businesses and charities
Not sure how safe your office computers are, or whether your backups would actually work? In 20 minutes, over a video call or a remote session, we’ll check your IT and tell you in plain English what needs fixing first. It’s free, and there’s no sales pitch.
Or call 0300 561 0600
What we check
Security basics. Whether two-factor authentication is on for email and key accounts, whether your computers are getting security updates, and the common gaps attackers look for.
Your devices. Which PCs and laptops are slow, out of date, or still on Windows 10, and which can move to Windows 11.
Backups. Where your important files are backed up, how often, and whether you could get them back after a failure or a ransomware attack.
Email, files and remote access. How your team shares files and works from home, and whether that’s set up securely.
The overall picture. How your IT would cope if a laptop was stolen, an account was hacked or a key person was off.
What you get
A short written summary by email, with the issues listed in order of priority and what each one would take to fix. A lot of it you can fix yourself. If you’d like help with anything, we’ll give you a fixed price. You’re under no obligation.
Who it’s for
Small offices, shops, trades, charities and community groups, usually with between one and 50 computers. You don’t need to know anything technical. If you can join a video call, we can do the check.
How it works
- Book a time that suits you, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.
- Join the call. We’ll ask a few questions and, with your permission, look at one or two of your computers remotely. You can watch everything we do, and you can end the remote session at any time.
- Get your summary by email within one working day.
Why it’s free
FCOMS UK CIC is a Community Interest Company. Helping small organisations stay safe online is part of what we exist to do, and the health check is the simplest way to start. Some people go on to use our monthly IT support, and plenty don’t.
Questions
Do you need access to my computers?
Only if you agree, and only for the length of the call. We use a secure remote-support tool that you start yourself and can close at any time. We don’t install anything that stays on your machine.
Will you see my files?
We look at settings, not documents. If something needs a closer look, we’ll ask first.
Is it really free?
Yes. There’s no charge and no obligation.
What if you find something serious?
We’ll tell you straight away, explain the risk in plain English, and tell you what to do about it, whether or not you use us to fix it.
Twenty minutes now could save you a very bad day later.
